Sorry You Missed the 5 Dollar Scrapbook Deal!

Posted on June 26th, 2007 by wwaddell.
Categories: Scrapbook Articles, Site Information.

Hi Scrapbook Friend,

Sorry you missed the 5 dollar scrapbook deal!  It was a big hit for those that got the mail and took advantage.  If you seen it and didn’t quite get off the fence, I have some really bad news… we are never going to be that low again.  Sorry!

There is some good news though…

We are going to do a 6 dollar deal starting this Friday.  Then on the next Friday it goes up to 7 and then in another week it goes to 8 and then 9 and finally levels off at 9.97 where it will stay for a while.  How long will depend a lot on how much more we add to the memberships and how soon.

If you didn’t see the 5 dollar deal, I’m sorry you missed it.  But, let me explain in more detail about the 6 dollar one starting on Friday.

It’s quite simple, actually.  We are waiving the account setup fees and letting you have access to our Platinum 5000+ all areas membership for only 6 dollars a month for as long as you keep it going.  It will never go up and you will always have full access to everything on the membership site, no matter what we add to it.

WoW, it can costs you more in gas these days to go to the scrapbook store and back than that… let alone if you actually spend money there too.  Kathy and I know that we have a few members that still just print the papers and hand scrap and this is a great source of inexpensive papers.  But, you know what they say about digital Scrapbooking:

The more you do, the more it saves you… and that’s both time and money!

I know it sounds like a pitch and too good to be real.  But, the cold hard fact is that gasoline is 3 dollars a gallon and more (much more in some places) depending on where you live.  That means it’s going to cost more to produce and deliver, not to mention go pick up, physical scrapbook papers and supplies.  And, when these prices go up, who pays the difference?  You do in the physical brick and mortar store case.

Digital doesn’t use trucks and doesn’t have all the associated costs that go with your local store.  We are also always open… even on the holidays and at 2 in the morning.

If you are really on a tight budget… digital is the only source that lets you create the pages now, and store them safely on CD/DVD/Backup Hard Drives or even on the internet.  Create and share them now electronically and have them printed at a later date when your budget allows.  You can even have multiple books printed and cost share with family.  I can’t think of a less expensive scrapbook than 2 cents a page and less than a penny a page to store on disk.  Can you?

Kathy’s completed over 800 12×12 pages since May 16th, less than 2 months.  AND, that’s not including the new designs and templates she’s done for you in the members areas.  She’s creating memory books for each of our 5 grandkids and we are going to have them published as hardbound book volumes as they grow.  Know any hand scrappers that have created anywhere near 800 pages in about 6 weeks time?

Oh, and if you think you can do that with Fr-e-e- pages, I have a feeling it would take you double that time just to locate half that number of pages to use.  After all, that’s more than 400 two page matched sets you need to locate in a complete variety of themes and subjects.

Don’t believe me… try locating 10 matched sets for children’s themes and time yourself.  I don’t know about you, but I have much better things to do with my hours of time.

Look, it all boils down to two things:

  • Time is against you when it comes to preserving your memories… the longer you wait, the less you remember and the harder it is to recall the exact feelings that you had at that time.  You can’t preserve what you don’t remember!
  • We have a solution, right now, that offers more than 5000 pages, plus art, plus embellishments, plus a whole lot more in the future.  And, it’s less than 2 cents per page…  a bake sale once a month can raise that.

Time is also against you for membership.  The price is going up every week for the next 4 weeks.

Are you going to fix your scrapbook page costs at 6 dollars a month, 7, 8 or more?

There’s never going to be a better time to join and time is your biggest enemy.  Are you going to save both time and money here or are you going to miss this chance too?

There’s no risk…

You have 8 full weeks to check it out.  If at any time you don’t think it’s your cup of tea during that time, just let us know and you’ll get every penny back.  After that, you can still stop at any time… you are in total control.

That means that the only risk you have, is the risk of spending more and loosing more of your memories by waiting…

Late… Mid Month Digital Scrapbook Site News

Posted on June 21st, 2007 by wwaddell.
Categories: Site Information.

Hi Scrapbook Friend,

Can you believe it’s the middle of the year already?  (First Day of Summer for those of us in the northern hemispher) I know that Kathy and I sure have no idea where the time has gone this year.  Still, besides the templates that Kathy had placed in the Members Areas for you, she has managed to complete over 200 pages in our grandkids individual 12×12 digital scrapbooks.

We can’t wait to have the first volumes printed as hardbound books next month when she finishes the last few pages.

How many pages have you finished this year?  You’ll have to let us know.

Before I get to this months new additions, I wanted to talk about weddings for just a minute.

Kathy and I have gotten a lot of requests for new wedding pages this month.  Nothing new there, we always get an increase in requests for May and June.  Spring weddings are popular, after all.

It did get me thinking though and I actually found a couple of really neat ideas for capturing not only the photos, but the memories and emotions as well.  I put the ideas into a new article on our BLOG today.

So, head on over to our BLOG at: http://blog.princesscrafts.com and get what’s new for the end of the month and check out the wedding scrapbook ideas I came up with.

Don’t forget to leave your comments…

With no further delays… Here’s Kathy’s June additions for you:

First, Kathy just added a new patriotic mini-page on the PrincessCrafts.com homepage.  It’s FREE, so get there and download it when you have the time.

In the Members areas… Kathy just added 2 new household cliparts to the Members ClipArt area.

There’s a new Mothers Day (or mom’s birthday) set on both the 8.5×11 PrincessCrafts area and the 12×12 1-Computer-Scrapbook area.  See the recently added pages for full location details.

For our Hi-Res ScrapbookKitsnBits.com fans, Kathy just added 2 new Father’s Day kits in addition to the Fathers Day Kit she added at the beginning of the month.  If you haven’t seen the individual kits yet, you’re missing out on some really beautiful scrapbook additions.

Our FREE Digital Stationery Site’s popularity is growing steadily… And to tell the truth, Kathy totalled it up today and she’s added over 260 new stationery pages since we took over the site.  Have you see how great they also work for scrapbook backgrounds?

On the FREE Digital Stationery site this month:

Kathy just replaced all the animal stationeries and updated them to our new higher quality graphics.  So, even if you have been there recently, we’ve updated many of the digital stationeries to make sure they meet our high quality standards.

She also added a 4th page to the Animal category.  Have you seen them yet?

Freebies:

This is the last month for our Newsletter Freebies!  Sorry, it’s taking up a lot of our time and with all we give away already… we just can’t keep up.  We’ll still have the FREE Digital Stationeries, FREE gifts for our newsletter readers from time to time, the FREE Mini-Page on the PrincessCrafts.com main site as well as our FREE Computer Scrapbook 101 Course…

Speaking of the mini scrapbook course; We just updated it to be “The Most Incredible FREE Digital Scrapbook Gift… EVER!”

What’s that mean to you?

It means that now, not only do you get FREE Software, FREE Training and FREE Templates, but we also just added a FREE 1-Year Membership to our Scrapbook of a Lifetime heritage/Genealogy area and the FREE Kids Craft Projects e-Book download.  More than $130.00 worth of digital scrapbook goodies for nothing but the cost of your time to register.

For all our Members that signed up in the Past, as long as your Account is still active, you already have full access to the new area and book.  Just log into your Members Home page at www.MyPrincessCrafts.com and inside you’ll find the new links in your left hand menu.

New Wedding Ideas to Save Money and Still Capture all the Memories

Posted on June 21st, 2007 by wwaddell.
Categories: Digital Photography, Scrapbook Articles.

Your wedding is more than just the sum of the photographs and the gifts… isn’t it?

This is the event you have dreamed of all your life.  This is the moment that defines a new beginning.  This is the time when two singles became 1 family.  Shouldn’t you capture more than just a few photos and scraps of paper?

How about capturing the memories, complete with the emotions that made it so memorable?

Pictures and names in a book are a good start, but they do little to help you feel all the emotions that were flooding the air during that time.  An image can’t tell you what mom was thinking as you put on the wedding dress, what dad was saying just before he gave you away or what any of the guests wished for you in the future.

Here’s 2 new ways to make sure you capture all the parts of the memory forever…  and save some money doing it!

Wedding Wishes:

Remember, our goal here is to not only capture the moments on film, but to really capture the emotions and feelings as well.  How do you know what your friends and family are thinking unless you ask them?  The questions is, how do you do that when you may not have the time to talk to everyone there…?

How about a Wedding Wishing Well or Bowl?  This is really a great idea, and it won’t even cost you much time or money. All it takes is a small wooden wishing well, the kind they sell for flower planting, a couple of good ink pens and some note cards.  As an alternate, get a big round fish bowl to use in place of the Wedding Wishing Well.

The whole idea is to provide an opportunity for guests to wish the Bride and Groom all the best and happy tidings for the future.  And the best time to do this is at the reception… where there’s plenty of time and everyone is more relaxed.  Just set up a small table out of the way from the main party.  Place the well or fish bowl in the middle and the note cards and pens all around.  Then, don’t forget to tell the guests about it and prompt them once and a while to be sure and get by the table before they leave.

Everyone needs a little prompting now and again.  And, it also shows that it’s important to the couple that they capture their personal thoughts.

For a more formal presentation, the note cards can be placed into little matching wedding stationary envelopes that match the Bride’s color theme and/or wedding stationary.

Another alternate that fits in well with outdoor weddings is the Wedding Wish Tree.  Instead of the wishing well or bowl, a tree is used instead to collect the wishes.  There are many types of Wedding Wish Trees and lots of price options.  You can purchase metal ones, plastic trees or even fashion your own using blooming branches from your garden or a florist shop.  Of course, you can even use a tree in your garden or at the outside location.

The only thing critical is the way you attach the completed memory wishes… you don’t want to harm a live tree.  My best suggestion is a supply of color matched ribbon strips.  Just have your guests roll the finished notes and tie them to a limb with one of the ribbons.

After the wedding events are over, the real fun begins.  Now, just take the notes and use them as captions and journaling in your wedding album scrapbook.  The notes can even be torn on the edges or framed as embellishments in your wedding scrapbook.  That part is up to you.

Any of the wedding wishes that you don’t have photos to go with can easily be made into a collage of thoughts and wishes and placed in a page all to themselves.  It also makes the perfect opening intro to your wedding memories scrapbook.

The Typewriter Guest Book:

I heard about the Typewriter Guest Book from Martha Stewart.  It was featured as her latest discovery for a guest book alternative.

I had to admit, I loved this idea for really capturing peoples thoughts and feelings right there at the moment it happened.

All you need to do is to look for an old-fashioned, “inexpensive” typewriter.  I have no doubt that you’ll find one online (check e-Bay), at a flea market or at your local thrift shop… just make sure it works.

Come the wedding day, set it out on a table in the entry area of the wedding or wedding reception. You may want to put it out at both if you have guests that are only attending one or the other.  Now, just load the typewriter with matching stationery.  You could also use long sheets of legal sized paper or even a paper roll, but the drawback to that is that it makes it hard to fit into your scrapbook wedding memory book later.  The pages would have to be cut to fit.

Of course, if you plan on cutting them out into individual journal notes… it makes for less paper changing.  Digital Scrapbooker can even scan in the pages and cut and paste at will.  I actually kind of like that idea…

Now, as your guests arrive, all they do is to type in wedding wishes to the Bride and Groom along with their name and any other sentiment that comes to mind.

The important thing is, no matter which wedding idea you use, is that you are not only capturing images, but the thoughts and memories that go with them.  That is what is really going to make your wedding album scrapbook a cherished keepsake rather than just an album of photographs.

Best wishes and a lifetime of happiness…

Thoughts on Printing Digital Scrapbook Pages

Posted on June 7th, 2007 by wwaddell.
Categories: My Thoughts, Scrapbook Articles, Scrapbook Tips.

Kathy and I just received this mail from one of our new members.  It’s a question we see from time to time, so we decided to share it with all of our digital scrapbook family…

Kathy and Wes,

Thank you for responding so quick to my question and for the upgrade!!!  Kathy was right, this is addictive!  I have one more question and then I think I am good to go.  I am having trouble figuring out the best type of paper to print my digital pages on.  The best Yet is glossy photo paper.  My pics look so much better but I don’t like the rest of the page shiny.  Please advise.  Thank you again for opening a whole new world to someone who has been hand scrapping for 7 years!!!

god bless you guys!

Susan Hall

Here’s what we told her:

Hi Susan,

It’s all a matter of opinion for a lot of the printing.  But, here’s what Kathy does…

She also uses the glossy photo papers when she is doing bright colorful pages such as a children’s baby book.  When she wants a more antique or subdued look, she uses matt finish papers.  That’s also her preference for wedding books.  We also print a lot of our pages on clean bright white card stock.  It gives the same effect as matt photo papers when you put them inside the clear plastic sleeves and costs a fraction of the price that matt photo papers cost.

Our first scrapbook mini-page travel book. This is also what we use when we make small 4×6 mini-pages and travel books.  Print 4 to a page and cut them apart to slip into the commercial travel or photo books.

When we want something in-between, we use the new inkjet/laserjet color print papers that you can get in all the office supply stores.  It’s a little more expensive than regular copy paper, but has a special coating that makes the photo’s stand out almost as well as glossy photo paper, yet keeps the rest of the page more subdued.  It’s a great middle option and is fast becoming our second favorite print option.

To be totally honest with you, we don’t print too many of our own finished scrapbooks these days.  We use Realbooks-Scrapbooks.com Kathy's first two Realbook Scrapbook hardbound books... one in 12x12 and one in 8.5x11 inch.to have almost all of our scrapbooks made into real hardbound books.  It isn’t much more expensive, especially when you count the cost of a hand scrapped album cover.  In many cases, it comes out less expensive than had we done it ourselves.  It’s another one of those things that once you have one done, you don’t want to have it done any other way.

Kathy’s in the process of creating lifetime books for each of our 5 grandkids now.  She has finished more than 100 pages per child and is still going strong.  We are going to have them made into hardbound book volumes by years so that we can keep adding to them as they grow.  You can have a little more than 200 pages per book, but we like to keep it at about 100.  That way you can get through reading and viewing a whole book in and hour or so.  If we make them any bigger than that, they don’t get looked at as often.  Besides, this way you can share the several volumes with multiple friends at the same time.

The process sounds complicated when you try to explain it, but it really is easy once you’ve done one.  If you can save your images (finished digital pages) to a CD or DVD, then you can have a hardbound book made.  If you have high speed internet, you can even make arrangements to upload the pages and have them printed… complete with custom full color cover.

This probably sounds a bit like a commercial, but we really just love them.  We’ve had 6 books made so far in the last year and a half and have 10 more in the works with the grandkids books.  Two each so far…

Hope this helps…
