Thoughts for Thanksgiving…
Nov 22nd, 2007 by wwaddell
Hi Scrapbook Friend,
On this day of thanks here in the USA, I wanted to share a special thank you to all of our military members that are not able to spend the day with their families as they are deployed in far away places protecting our freedom.
While it’s not always the most popular thing these days and whether you support the reasons that they are deployed or not… it’s important to remember that they are, in many cases, laying down their lives to defend your rights and freedom.
As a retired Air Force member, I would be remiss on this day of thanks and giving to not remember the men and women in uniform from many different countries that are serving away from home today.
My nephew is in IRAQ and I’m proud of him…
A young 15 year old girl created a video that pretty much says it all… it brought both smiles and tears to Kathy and I.

Hi Kathy and Wes,
Thank you for sending this on to your subscribers. I am grateful.
I too am a very big supportor of the military. When I see a soldier on the street, in a store, at an event I will go up to them and shake their hands and tell them Thank you for putting yourself in this job not only for your family and friends, but for mine and every other John and Jane Doe you don’t know. My gratitude runs deeper than these words of Thank you can say.
I don’t even shop at Target and haven’t since that second Christmas that the troops were in Iraq and Target would not host stations for collection or donate calling cards to the troops so that they could call their families for the holiday. I saw that as a sign of disrespect and betrayal and I will not support that by no means. But Sam’s and Walmart did. So where do you think I shop???
My opinion, it’s because of the past soldiers and wars that have given them their freedom and opportunity to do business and continued success here in the states.
Don’t take it for granted people!!
I too am proud of your nephew and please pass along to him my sincere thank you and gratitude for the job he is doing along side his buddies for all of us.
To their families as well. Thank you because without them we just wouldn’t be. I will always be grateful and will always remember. I hope they all return home safe very soon.
Happy Holidays to all.
Naomi
I’m in NZ and the war in Iraq doesn’t really touch us on a personal level here, but I just sat and watched the video and I have tears pouring down my cheeks. Right or wrong - and I guess only history will show that - you can support people without necessarily supporting what they’re fighting for.
I’ll pass it on.
Thanks
Pene
Kathy and Wes, happy Holiday to you as well. Be it proper or not I too am so thankful for each of our solider men and women that give up so much for our benefit of freedom.
My dad is a disabled Vietnam vet. I never got to know my old dad, the one that I had as a very young baby. The dad I knew was tragically altered after the war never to be the same again. He gave up his health, his family time and his own personal safety for all of us. My dad is still alive and he is my hero.
Kathy and Wes you have both been such awesome friends. I am sorry we did not get to hook up this summer but I suspect eventually our roads will cross.
It’s a small world after all.
Have the best and safest holiday season this year.
Jenny
I applaud you both, for the wonderful thanksgiving thought.
As a 10year veteran of the Navy, It brings home what we should All be thinking of, on this day of thanks.
My son is leaving for Air Force in January and I thank God, I have the holidays to share with him. We both just watched the video Of the link you sent, and It brought tears and smiles to both of us.
Thank you Again,
Deborah A. Gallup
Thanks so much! We drank a toast to a young soldier who was in our Sunday School class. He ate Thanksgiving dinner with us 2 years ago.
He would have been 23 the day before Thanksgiving, but was killed by an IED in Iraq. We are thankful for all the wonderful sons and daughters who are still defending our freedoms.
Blessings,
LeGares
I really appreciated the Thanksgiving note from you and Kathy about the troops serving. My husband and I are Air Force veterans and the men and women serving are never very far from our minds and hearts.
Thanks again,
Charmaine
