Digital Scrapbook Weekly

Hi Scrapbook Friend,
It’s been a busy week around here. The bad was Kathy’s computer crash and the fact that we are still recovering the data. The good was our 4 year old grandson Nick stealing the show at the Spokane County Fair and getting 3 blue ribbons for showing his great grandma’s llama’s. We also took a trip to the Drag Races to watch Kathy’s brother and nephew compete.
We have some great photos to show you and a great story to tell. So, let’s get started.
The Spokane County Fair in Spokane Washington was a lot of fun this year. It was especially fun for our grandson as he got to show 2 of his great grandma Carlson’s llama’s in 3 different competitions.
Here to the left you see our 4 year old grandson, Nickolas, with Issi waiting outside the show barn for their turn inside with the judge. At just 4 years old and with a 3 year old llama, he was the youngest competitor there and the two of them stole the show.
Not that we are bragging, but the stands were full of people and… actually, I better start at the beginning for this one.
Great Grandma decided that Nick would be the perfect kid to show her small llama Issi at the Spokane County Fair this year. While Mom and Dad were a little nervous, once they met Amanda, the girl that would be helping Nick in the show… it was all a go.
To the right you see Nick, Issi and Amanda waiting for the first formal judging in the kids division. Nick was all smiles in the ring and loved all the attention, not to mention he and Issi got along really well. Llama’s are pack animals and quite strong, but Nick held his ground and did really well keeping Issi in control with just a little guidance from Amanda.
The crowd loved all the kids and their llama’s and it was quite entertaining to see these small kids and their large hairy companions working together. They must have done something right as they got their first of what would be 3 Blue ribbons for the day. To the left is Nick and Issi getting their very first Blue Ribbon ever!
Great grandma, grandma and grandpa, mom and dad all couldn’t have been prouder of how well he did for his first show.
How could you not just love that smile!
After the basic judging, Nick and Issi dressed up for the costume competition. Issi was wearing a full bridal gown and veil with Nick in white and black.
It was amazing to see the llama’s dressed in all kinds of outfits… even made up to look like a dragon and they had no problems trusting their owners to lead them around and keep them out of trouble.
As you can see here to the left, Nick, Amanda and Issi got their second blue ribon.
The last event was by far the most entertaining…
It was the obsticle course and the helpers were not allowed to assist the kids on the course. The judge walked them all through what they needed to do, but have you ever known a 4 year old to really pay attention when there were so many other things to see? Nick was having too much fun kicking dirt and getting attention from the croud in the stands.
That made it all that much more fun when he began to lead Silver, great grandma’s other llama, around the course.
It was just too cute to see them work together and try to remember all that needed to be done.
But, with lots of laughs and cheers from the croud and a couple of repeated obsticles, they made it through and got their 3rd and final blue ribon for the day.
What a great day and what a great event to see.
Just as a note, Amanda Campbell went on the win a total of 7 blue ribons in her class and Tino the Llama, also from Great Grandma Calrlsons Nomad Acres Llamas won grand champion. The 5 llama’s from Nomad Acres that great grandma brought to the show (including Issi and Silver) also won best group making Nomad Acres Llamas the most winning group their this year by a large margine. Darleen Carlson (Nick’s Great Grandma) was all smiles to say the least.
Next up… we head out to the drag races with Kathy’s brother Kevin and Nephew Ryan. More great digital scrapbook photos, ideas and stories to come.
Until tomorrow…
Kathy and Wes
